Water Saving Tips for Swimming Pools

1) Limit the frequency of swimming pool refilling

2) Cover the swimming pool pool. The average uncovered swimming pool loses one inch of water per week. Covering the swimming pool can save 95% of water lost to evaporation

3) Lower the swimming pool’s water to reduce losses from splashing. It’s recommended to keep the water level one inch above the bottom of the swimming pool tile

4) Lower the swimming pool temperature. Reducing the swimming pool temperature reduces water loss to evaporation, and is particularly important when the swimming pool is not being used.

5) Backwash the swimming pool only when necessary.

6) Check the swimming pool regularly for cracks and leaks.

7) Keep the swimming pool and filters clean to reduce frequency of filter backwashing.

8) Run filter backwash onto lawns and shrubs or collect for reuse

9) Ensure that the swimming pool water is absorbed before it leaves your property and avoid allowing runoff to enter adjacent properties.

10) If acid has been used to clean the swimming pool, the water should be neutralized.
